About this course
The Poona golf course is one of the oldest courses in the country & was up & running around 1920. Part of the Poona Club, the golf course is at a different location & is situated on the way to the airport. Strategically positioned in a prime part of the city it is spread over 94 acres of lush green vegetation . The course is extremely well maintained with immaculate fairways & greens which are reputed to be the fastest in the country with interesting undulations & slopes. There have been instances during tournaments where even the best of the professional golfers have ended up with 3 & 4 putts – & yes the dreaded 5 putt.
The Poona club almost lost the course to the government post independence but some die hard gold enthusiasts managed to limit the damage . The compromise was the orginal 135 acre area was trimmed down to 94 acres . The course has more than 35,000 trees and has remained relatively unchanged over the last decade – a testament to the orginal design.
Playing on this course calls for accuracy , strategy & the ability to play tricky greens . While water is in play & the 38 bunkers are a part of the design – the real test is to manage to keep out of the trees that line most of the fairways & holes . The golf course has a redesigned clubhouse with a wonderful menu & a well stocked pro shop . It is the busiest course in Pune & the Western part of India .
NOTE: The golf course is closed on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month. Single balls not allowed on Thu, Sat, Sundays & holidays
